NetEnt Announces Narcos Slot Machine
We are used to getting pleasantly surprised by companies such as NetEnt, but their most recent announcement left everyone in shock, as no one was expecting such a game. Except us of course – we gave you the news as early as April 1, 2018! When we say shocked, we mean shocked in a very positive way since it’s neither cheap nor simple to get all the licenses required for making and publishing a game inspired by a huge TV show.
Narcos was one of the most popular TV shows, with millions of people watching the live premiere of each episode week after week. Sadly for all the fans, the show only has three seasons, all of which were extremely exciting and enjoyable, leaving everyone satisfied in the end.
The last two episodes scored above 9 on IMDB, which shows how happy everyone was with the ending. We won’t drop any names, but many extremely popular shows with outstanding reviews and tens of millions of regular viewers get poor feedback in the last couple of episodes, but not Narcos. One of the reasons might be that it is based on a true story.

Adequate Design
If a company is making a slot machine inspired by a show about one of the biggest criminals in the world, Pablo Escobar, and the Cali Cartel in season 3, you can’t expect flowers and magic creatures to appear in the game.
NetEnt put all the elements every Narcos fan wants to see in this game, including a Colombian city road in the background and the main characters from the TV show on the reels. Although the game looks fairly simple and two-dimensional at the beginning (especially if you skip the intro which we recommend watching), you’ll be surprised to see how much work was put into the development, especially because of the 3D animations and cinematic elements.
The Structure, Paylines, and Rules
NetEnt implemented what many slot fans anticipated for so long — the good old 5 by 3 formation of the fields. Overcomplicating things when you have such a great topic and millions of people worldwide waiting for the game to come out so they can play is not a good idea.

Symbols and Features
As is the case with any other good slot machine, the paytable starts with picture card values going from jacks through aces, representing the least valuable symbols. As you would imagine, the rest of the symbols are either characters from the TV show or elements from the show such as cop cars, mafia cars, police badges, and guns.
The Drive-By Feature
This is exactly where NetEnt showed their skill of coming up with unique and great-looking features. The Drive-By feature is activated randomly at the end of any regular spin. A group of gangsters drives next to the reels and starts shooting at the reels, leaving bullet holes all over the machine. Although that sounds bad, it is a pretty good thing for players as bullets turn high-value symbols into wilds, significantly increasing the odds of creating one or more winning combinations.
Walking Wilds
As we are talking about wilds, let’s mention the Walking Wilds feature. These wilds are different from the regular ones since not only do they last longer, but they also move across the reels. Once they land, all the prizes (if any) are paid out. Before the next spin starts, the wilds shift one reel to the left, stopping along with other symbols. The process repeats itself until they get out of the screen (leave the first reel).
Locked Up Feature
Land three or more locked symbols in the same row to activate the Locked Up bonus feature. That takes you to a new screen and awards a random coin win. If you manage to land the golden locked symbol on the new screen, that will increase the value of the coin prize or unlock even more bonus features.
